Series: Innkeeper Chronicles #3
Genres: Urban Fantasy
Dina DeMille may run the nicest Bed and Breakfast in Red Deer, Texas, but she caters to very particular kind of guest… the kind that no one on Earth is supposed to know about. Guests like a former intergalactic tyrant with an impressive bounty on her head, the Lord Marshal of a powerful vampire clan, and a displaced-and-superhot werewolf; so don’t stand too close, or you may be collateral damage.
But what passes for Dina’s normal life is about to be thrown into chaos. First, she must rescue her long-distant older sister, Maud, who’s been exiled with her family to a planet that functions as the most lawless penal colony since Botany Bay. Then she agrees to help a guest whose last chance at saving his civilization could bring death and disaster to all Dina holds dear. Now Gertrude Hunt is under siege by a clan of assassins. To keep her guests safe and to find her missing parents, Dina will risk everything, even if she has and may have to pay the ultimate price. Though Sean may have something to say about that.
Ah, time flew by and now we have another book in the Inkeeper series. Not so long ago, I gushed about how much I love book 2, now I’m going to pretty much do the same thing. I don’t think this series is capable of disappointing. One fell sweep is just as good, if not even better than the last one. Kudos to the authors for creating such compelling characters and such a vivid magical world.
In this book, we learned more about Dina’s family. We meet her older sister Maud – stubborn, independent and strong, I loved her character almost immediately. I love how different she is from Dina, she adds to the colorful characters in the inn. Arland and Sean are also back, and they never fail to either make me laugh or make me swoon. We meet new types of characters from alien worlds and we get to visit some of them. I found them really fascinating, every time they step out of the inn and into another world I feel like I’m visiting a planet from a Star Wars movie. It has that feel for me.
There’s a lot of exciting things happening in this book, the arrival of her sister, Dina being attacked by a mysterious creature and the inn being attacked by a clan of feathered aliens. There are a lot of oh wow revelations in this one, unexpected twists and turns. Lots of fast-paced action that I love. I was in the story hook, line and sinker. At the same time though, it never lost it’s heart, in the middle of all the action that’s happening are the characters and their relationships. This book will take you into a roller coaster of emotions, but every moment will be worth it. Trust me, there’s never a dull moment in this book, I was either laughing, crying or holding my breath in the action scenes. There’s a lot more interesting things that happen that I’m not mentioning here, because I would just love for you to be surprised by it, just as it did me. It makes for such a delicious read.
Needless to say, this whole post could be summed into – I freaking love this book and I can’t wait for the next one!
